College of Development Communication, University of the Philippines Los Banos
CDC is recognized as the pioneer in development communication teaching in the world. It has trained faculty members of state universities and colleges in the Philippines and in other countries in the Asia-Pacific region for their higher degrees in development communication. In 1999, the College was named as one of two Commission on Higher Education (CHED) national centers of excellence in communication. The BS Development Communication degree program has set a trend and is now the model for similar degree programs implemented by other academic institutions in the Philippines and other developing countries as well.

Dr. Josep Rota, the current director of the Center for International Studies and the faculty member who directed the program through most of its first decade, said it took less than a year to bring the program from concept to actuality.

The establishment of the Department of Extension Education in 1959 came about mainly because of support from the Ontario Department of Agriculture (ODA), especially the Extension Branch. The ODA had extension people in each county and district who were almost, without exception, graduates of the OAC. These people were specialists in various areas; Soil Science, Crop Science, Animal Science, Poultry Science but had little training in how to teach. They felt that with increasing scientific knowledge available, they would be more effective in their work if they had some formal training in the methods and techniques to help them in the dissemination of information.
